Gaston HÉLIE perfectly manages to distance himself from nature thanks to the application of a pictorial material that sculpts the volumes by juxtaposing
nested forms, ignoring the laws of perspective. He likes to decompose shapes into learned geometry. The compositions find their dynamism both in
the order and strength of the line than in the arrangement of the coloured masses and the skilful distribution of the effects of light and shadow.
Attentive to the harmony of colours, the artist abandons the vivid colours of the early years for a clear palette treated in a monochrome of vibrant colours, and ends up
abandoning the knife for the brush with more subtle fluid effects. The purity becomes total and the landscapes metaphorical. A renewed vision that transposes into painting the musical and poetic harmony that
the painter has been unconsciously looking for all his life.
Strength of line and tonality of colour remain the key words of the research of this extraordinary artist who never stops creating a painting of the spirit.
and "Making Music in Painting".
